Climate change

Extreme and unpredictable weather, mass migration, sea-level rise, disruption of harvests: we're only just beginning to see the consequences of climate change. We are approaching 1.5°C of warming on pre-industrial levels, a limit set out in the Paris Agreement, and are even facing the possibility of surpassing that threshold. As we head into this uncharted territory, we will not only see more and more evidence of disruption, but also signs of adaptation, resilience and innovation as humankind faces arguably its greatest challenge.

This is one of our core areas of work at Forum for the Future. Our vision is a decade of bold action to fully decarbonise the global economic system and lock away carbon from the atmosphere by recarbonising our depleted soils and ecosystems. The radical changes this brings are managed so that the benefits come to every community, including those currently dependent on fossil fuel industries. The result is a rapid and just transition to a ‘carbon positive’ economy that limits global warming to 1.5°C and provides to clean energy, mobility and meaningful livelihoods.
