Recent studies show a sharp rise in emissions of CFC-11, an ozone-destroying chemical whose production has been banned since 2010. The source of the emissions has been tracked to east Asia, but the location, or source, hasn’t been refined any further at this moment.
CFC-11 is particularly detrimental to our climate, and unless the source is found and stopped, it could delay the recovery of the ozone layer by as much as a decade.
Is CFC-11 being produced deliberately, or is it an undetected industry product? What ways are there to track CFC emissions to their source?
